Wheelchair Sports WA and Badminton Western Australia have held a join Para-Badminton Come and Try day for our members on July 26th and everyone who was able to make it had a terrific time!

Seven WSWA members made it along, while 5 had played Badminton before to some degree for two it was a new experience. Some of the skills were a bit questionable at the start but everyone improved magnificently over the two hour session.

The ease with which basic Badminton skills can be picked up by a new player is one of the best reasons to learn to play, with people with difference physical disabilities, or able bodied, easily able to play against each other socially.

Para-Badminton has been accepted into the Paralympics in 2020 and Badminton WA are keen to get more West Australians with physical disabilities involved in the sport recreationally, with the hope some may really take the sport on and strive to participate at higher levels.

If you missed the Come and Try but would like to have a hit don’t panic… email hayden@wheelchairsportswa.org.au and we’ll look at how we can get you involved!

Big thanks to Ian for running the session and Badminton WA CEO Eugene for assisting and supporting the sport, as well as taking a few photos.
